JLUK takes Ultraphone into new territory

JLUK has this week commenced trials of Ultraphone for Highways England (HE) on the M1.

Parts of our strategic road network experience historical durability/performance issues when dealing with skid resistance deficiencies on concrete roads. This trial is designed to measure the performance of thin and ultra-thin asphalt overlays as well as retexturing treatments. HE has a key target to reduce noise across their network – providing an ideal opportunity for our low noise surface, Ultraphone, to shine.

The trial took place between Junction 6 and 5 on the southbound carriageway of the M1 at Watford, which is an extremely busy stretch of the Highways England Network. JLUK has been working with HE, Atkins, Skanska and Connect Plus to ensure that the trial reflect all stakeholder’s needs.

All works have been undertaking under night working, with support from across our businesses. Key to the success of this trial is the support provided by Simon Moroney and the Eurovia Roadstone team to supply this specialist material, and our Eurovia Surfacing teams under Dave Boswell’s leadership using our specialist SprayJet integrated pavers.

Jonathan Core, Divisional Manager of Jean Lefebvre UK, said: “This trial provides a wonderful opportunity for our integrated teams to showcase the best from across our business, from material design and testing, to supply and laying. I look forward to sharing the results with the business.”.
